This particular CD was actually published some 2 (or even more) years back. It was released during 2007. The music could be described as a symbiosis between Taake and Burzum. I would actually say that it is more Taake oriented then Burzum but, here and there, one can clearly notice some ambient influences. These influences are very similar to Burzum’s music. All music is written and composed by only one man. But, being one-man-band hasn’t brought anything bad to Lutemkrat. Album ‘The Last Survivor’ has many variations and different elements. Of course, it is wrapped in coldish black metal spirit, but constant exchange of riffs is the best way to describe this material. Obviously the music is rooted in Norwegian old-school sound, raw but still melodic guitars. Without any experiments Wolf Lutemkrat has taken one musical journey, a trip towards the frozen horizons. Aside of electric instruments, Wolf uses (rarely but very effectively) some acoustic guitars. Alongside of musical aspect, the visual side was also important. So, the whole layout including the cover artwork is very effectively done. I would not dare to say that this is a must for any BM fan, but those who are into old-school sound should definitely check this full-length.

Ja Leute, jetzt ist ein wenig Detektiv-Arbeit angesagt, denn der ein oder andere Musikliebhaber interessiert sich doch für die Herkunft von Bandnamen und deren Bedeutung. Da dürften viele eine Menge Zeit aufgebracht haben, um eine Übersetzung oder Begriffserklärung für das Wort “Lutemkrat” zu finden. Und um weitere Suchaktionen unnötig zu machen, lüfte ich hier schon mal dieses Geheimnis: Für “Lutemkrat” gibt es keine Übersetzung oder Erklärung, der Bandname ist ein erfundenes Kunstwort, welches die musikalische Thematik dieser Band ausdrücken soll.

Aber Band ist ein wenig hoch gegriffen, besteht das Projekt doch nur aus einem einzigen Mann: Wolf… na?… na?… Lutemkrat (wer hätte es gedacht), der sich um alle Instrumente, den Gesang, das Songwriting und eben alles kümmert, was dazugehört. Und obwohl die musikalische Ausrichtung deutlich gen Skandinavien zeigt, stammt der werte Herr Musiker aus dem sonnigen Brasilien. Ausrichtung? Ja, auf The Last Survivor herrscht bittere Kälte und schwärzeste Melancholie vor, hier wird Black Metal in epischer Breite geboten. Eingebettet in zwei akustische In- und Outros, bekommt der Hörer sechs relativ lange Stücke geboten, die nicht unmelodisch sind, denen aber trotzdem die schwarzmetallische Raserei keineswegs fehlt. Geschickt variiert der Wolf dabei das Tempo, wodurch die Scheibe recht abwechslungsreich erscheint, ohne die gemeinsame Herkunft verleugnen zu können. Das ist dann auch ein kleiner Kritikpunkt meinerseits, denn wie bei so vielen Ein-Mann-Projekten hätten ein paar weitere Einflüsse das Werk noch ein wenig aufgelockert. So wird es hier zwar nie langweilig (dazu ist der Künstler beim Songwriting gut genug bewandert), aber eine gewisse grundsätzliche Ähnlichkeit ist den Stücken dann doch anzumerken. Insgesamt aber weiß das Liedgut durchweg zu überzeugen und kann einige Höhepunkte aufweisen.

An den Instrumenten macht der Wolf eine recht beachtliche Figur, da gibt er sich kaum ein Blöße. Vor allem die Gitarren gefallen mir richtig gut, sowohl melodisches Feingefühl als auch recht griffige Riffs lassen sich hier finden. Nur im Schlagzeugbereich fehlt mir ein wenig der Punch, das klingt ein wenig künstlich und recht unspektakulär. Dafür geht die Sangesleistung wieder voll in Ordnung. Vom Klang her würde ich den Tonträger mal als angemessen bezeichnen. Weder klingt er nach Proberaum oder gar Telefonhörer, noch könnte man ihm eine übermäßige Bombast-Produktion unterstellen. Ganz in Ordnung halt und für die Musik durchaus geeignet.

Eine beachtliche Einzelleistung ist The Last Survivor geworden. Zwar hat sie ein paar kleinere Längen und ist auch nicht unbedingt als weltbewegend zu bezeichnen, aber hörbar ist die Scheibe zweifellos geworden. Fans von Nargaroth oder Taake können hier gefahrlos mal ein Ohr riskieren.

“The Last Survivor” è il full-leght di debutto per questa giovane one man band brasiliana creata da Wolf Lutemkrat che, dopo parecchi anni di gavetta riesce ad arrivare, dopo un demo del 2003 passato totalmente inosservato, alla pubblicazione con un’etichetta discografica, la Bleak Art Records.

Essendo il lavoro di una band presso che emergente è bene andarci con i guanti di velluto: non aspettatevi nessuna novità, il sound di questo progetto si avvale di tutti gli schemi tipici del black metal: sound sporco e disturbato condito da quel tocco gelido tipico delle band nordiche senza dimenticare però lo spazio per le melodie. Non è facile per una band brasiliana, dopotutto, spiccare tra le tante altre proposte del genere anche se, facendo due conti, la terra natia di Lutemkrat è ben povera di gruppi di un certo spessore. Lutemkrat con la sua semplicità compositiva (e diciamolo anche con testi che sfiorano il ridicolo del conformismo) riesce comunque a creare un lavoro ben equilibrato che sfocia nel classicismo senza cercare nessuna forma di originalità, dopotutto è meglio accontentarsi di un lavoro stereotipato e ben fatto, piuttosto che di uno originale ma inascoltabile.

“The Last Survivor” è caraterizzato da una registrazione di buon livello che però non ne esalta assolutamente l’atmosfera d’odio e gelo per dare troppa importanza alle parti più melodiche che sono certamente ben studiate e descrittive ma, che allegeriscono decisamente troppo un lavoro che dovrebbe risultare all’ascolto opprimente e glaciale. Le track sono ben strutturate non creando il terribile effetto monotonia che spesso e volentieri troviamo in moltissime nuove proposte, anche la lunghezza (medio-lunga) di ogni singola traccia riesce a trasmettere il giusto senza avere un senso di incompiutezza o, viceversa, di profonda noia.

Un full-leght più che sufficiente per una band esordiente che ha ancora parecchia strada da fare prima di riuscire a creare un lavoro degno di spessore compositivo ed emotivo, che si sa, è diventata ormai un’utopia trovare nei lavori delle band attuali.

Garoto Wolf Lutemkrat could outperform a full band of panda make up wearing fools any day of the week. After the record is done, he could still go and jog about a dozen laps around the Maracana stadium. The Last Survivor is his debut as monikered Lutemkrat and shows impressive talent in all fronts. Especially those that have to do with creating a cold atmosphere and one gear speed. That’s the greatest fault of this recording; it seems stuck in its one track battering pattern. That, my friends, may just be what happens when you refuse outside creative input. That’s not entirely negative though. At least The Last Survivor doesn’t veer off into pointless experimentation and out of character bizarre trips.

A song like “Vengeance” is mid tempo for Lutemkrat standards. It also shows a more controlled rock and roll delivery with memorable moments, but is ultimately rather safe. The tune is melodic, the riffage simple and stated. By the time the thundering opening of “Awaiting the Final Breath” makes an entrance, you’ll welcome back the constant beating from the first handful of songs.

The recording itself is a bit too polished to grant any descriptive word like ‘raw’ and ‘chaotic’ to it.  That may turn some people off. It left me a bit cold but on the same token it complements the artist’s winter-like fascination with lycanthropes.  Last time I checked there were no wolves in Brasil, but who cares! The day we accepted Bolivian bands playing authentic Norwegian black metal, it all stopped making sense.

The riffs are electric and there is nary a bit of fatness. The style grants it, that’s for sure. Wolf himself can write a nice riff that mixes speed with inviting melodies. There are also nice acoustic touches in the intro, during the end of “Awaiting the Final Breath” and all over “Journey Through Inner Landscapes”. If there is anything I admire is this guy’s ambition.  He doesn’t come short of anything. His vocals are like a cold breath on your neck. You felt it, you can almost be sure of that. What turned me off a bit was the drumming. It is suspiciously exact. Especially in parts where speed is maintained.

The Last Survivor is an impeccable record. That may not  always shape the best auditory experience, especially for those into chaotic messy black metal, but hell, this is one guy doing it all and coming off in better standing than most bands.

I Lutemkrat sono sono una one man band brasiliana, e un tempo sapere questo sarebbe bastato a molti per passare direttamente oltre, verso altri ascolti.

Oggi per fortuna non è più così, e non ci si fanno troppi problemi nel ricercare realtà valide provenienti dai paesi più disparati; e del resto, il Brasile qualche nome importante l’ha già tirato fuori a suo tempo…

In ogni caso il marchio Lutemkrat è una novità, così come il primo full prodotto sotto questo monicker, “The Last Survivor”.

L’atmosfera che si respira è quella tipica delle produzioni norvegesi, magari con un pizzico di attenzione in più alla melodia, ma sempre in un contesto classicamente black metal, funzionale perlopiù alla creazione di scenari maliconici e vagamente epici.

Per certi versi questo cd - uscito da poco per merito della canadese Bleak Art Records - non presenta nulla che lo faccia spiccare nel marasma di novità in campo “nero”: produzione discreta per il genere, song abbastanza lunghe con diversi richiami acustici… anche il buon vecchio lupo in copertina, mentre affronta la più classica delle tempeste di neve, sembra confermarci che si tratta - in fondo - di un disco che probabilmente già abbiamo.

Ma a ben guardare, “The Last Survivor” ha una marcia in più: i luoghi comuni del genere sono rivisitati con inusuale freschezza, e la materia ben nota del black metal di matrice nordica viene rimaneggiata sapientemente: odio, gelo, il richiamo della natura e gli echi del passato non trovano nuovo spessore nei testi (questi sì, alquanto stereotipati), ma nella costruzione di brani vincenti nella loro semplicità. Un altro punto a favore è certamente la prova vocale del mastermind di tutto il progetto, Wolf Lutemkrat, ben coadiuvato da un effetto eco moderato ma ben scelto.

In conclusione: un ascolto certamente gregario rispetto ai grandi nomi, questo “The Last Survivor”, ma anche capace di farsi apprezzare da chi ricerca del puro, incontaminato e semplice black metal fatto come si deve.

Ismerkedés a fagyos ismeretlennel címszó alatt, próbáljuk meg lenyelni a békát, avagy Lutemkrat-ot Brazíliából. A „csapat”, a „horda” mindössze egy személy formációja, bizonyos Wolf Lutemkrat (avagy Tersis Zonato) művészúr hozta létre Curitiban 2002-ben. A szóban forgó egyénnek van még egy formációja, amelyben vokálok és gitárok terén segít be a grindcore Offal-ba. 2003-ban kihozta a Never Surrender címet kapott demót vagy inkább kislemezt, majd tavaly előtt a kritikánk tárgyát (nem igazán értem, miért éppen a megjelenés után két évvel dobálja ki web’zineknek a Bleak Art Records), de sebaj… a lényeg hogy itt van. A zenei halmaz, pedig a black metal, abból is a skandináv melankolikus és pagan verzió - egyszerűen nem fér a fejembe, hogyan képes ez a zenei paletta Brazíliában egyáltalán megfoganni, hiszen annyira más, akkor a morális és a területi differencia, no de hagyjuk, lássuk miről is szól ez a halott és fagyos 46 perc!

Akusztikus intro (melynek dallamvilága több helyen is visszatér a korongon), a Silent Death súlyos kezdése azt a hatást kelti, mintha valami iszonyat kemény bandával állnánk szembe, de a sebesség és kegyetlenség csakhamar alábbhagy és a lemezt amúgy is átölelő melodikus massza kezdi meg tántorgását. Vegetatív és destruktív zene, tele remek ötletekkel, de természetesen a mókuskerékből nem képes kilépni, és mondjuk egy Dissection-höz képest sehol sincs, ahogy a Taake és Kampfar korongok is fényévekkel jobbak, nem is beszélve a Nargaroth mizantróp lélekvesztőjéről.

Úgy érzem az említett bandákkal talán érzékeltetni sikerült, milyen szinten is fagyos, kietlen és mély az egyszemélyes formáció. Hogy egyedül hogy sikerült mindezt összehozni, az nehéz kérdés, és valamilyen szinten géniusszal állunk szembe, hiszen miden hangszert és témát ő maga játszott fel, ennek is köszönhető, hogy élő hatást kelt (kivétel a túl magasra sikerült pergőt) az amúgy nagyon extrémnek kikiáltot, de azért inkább csak szokványos nyers pagan fekete fém, melybe a kiadó belekeverte a Gorgoroth és Burzum nevét is, melyek nem irreálisak, ám a hasonlóság nem mérvadó!

Az imént említett nyersesség ellenére a hangzás és a külsőségek is megütik a nemzetközi mércét, és ha szerelmese vagy a fentebb említett bandáknak, és egy színes fénymásolatát szeretnéd kezedbe venni más komponensek alapján újrarakva, akkor bizony te is az utolsó túlélők között érezheted magad vacogva a semmi közepén. Bár én amondó vagyok; ne féljünk a farkasoktól…

Lubię rozpoczynać miło dzień. W tym celu dziś z rana zrobiłem sobie mocną, dobrą kawę, wypróżniłem się obficie, przeczytałem świetny felieton Stanisława Tyma. I było good. Następnie włączyłem odtwarzacz, mając nadzieję na kontynuację dobrej passy.

Na tapetę wziąłem zaś kapelę z Brazylii. Lutemkrat się zowie. I jest to typowo black metalowy zespół. A właściwie one man band. Tworzy go Wolf Lutemkrat, który z kolei zarejestrował ten materiał w Lutemkrat Studio. Jakby jeszcze wydała go na przykład Lutemkrat Records, to mielibyśmy komplet. Ale nie, labelem Brazylijczyka jest Bleak Art Records. Rzekłem już, iż na „The Last Survivor” znajdziemy black metal, teraz zaś dodam, iż jest to konkretnie odłam z tak zwanego nurtu „wiking” czy też „pagan”. Utwory skomponowane przez Lutemkrat cechują się bowiem pewną dozą melodii i podniosłej atmosfery. W kilku fragmentach użyto też gitary akustycznej, która, trzeba przyznać, nieźle buduje nastrój, na przykład w takich kawałkach jak „Vengeance” czy „Journey Through Inner Landscapes”. W ogóle wolne partie, jakie znajdują się na „The Last Survivor” wypadają dobrze i rekompensują jałową napierdalankę, jaka ma miejsce, gdy panu Lutekramtowi zbierze się chętka na zwiększenie prędkości. Album Brazylijczyka nie powala innowacyjnością, no ale te szybkie fragmenty są naprawdę kiepskie i nic na to nie poradzę. Szczęśliwie, nie ma ich tu aż tak dużo, by przekreślały odbiór całego krążka Lutemkrat. Co mnie na nim jednak jeszcze drażni, to wokal, który na dłuższą metę jest nużący, ale do przeżycia. Podobnie, jak lekko płaskie brzmienie perkusji. Ale na tle wielu jednoosobowych kapel black metalowych, zespół Wolfa Lutemkrata wypada przyzwoicie.

Po powyższym wywodzie możecie zauważyć, iż Lutemkrat nie zepsuł mi dnia, bo tego „The Last Survivor” całkiem przyjemnie się słucha. Choć co prawda do zachwytu jeszcze trochę brakuje, to black metalowców zawieść ten krążek nie powinien.

When I saw that this was a Brazilian black metal band, I was expecting something raw and brutal. But no, I was wrong. Just as the album art depicts a black wolf resting in the snow, this band is a different animal than the Brazilian brutal death metal stereotypes. It sounds like cold pagan black metal from Scandinavia. This is the debut album from this one man black metal band from Curitiba, Brazil. Curitiba is located 216 miles southwest of Sao Paulo and 60 miles inland from the Atlantic coast. The artist goes by the name of Wolf Lutemkrat. Lutemkrat has no meaning in any dictionary, but he associates the meaning with destruction, war, chaos, hatred, loyalty, and honor. He wanted to perform this album independently, because he didn’t want to compromise his musical and artistic talents. The guitars play a lot of Scandinavian style high note grinding with melodic riffs. The bass playing accentuates the mood and provide a lot of harmony to the guitar playing. The drum playing is nothing spectacular, but it is adequate. The vocals sound like some harsh and grim screaming provided with echoes and slightly distorted. The vocals sound like Taake. The intro is 57 seconds of Latin style acoustic guitar playing. The Silent Death sounds like Taake. Very intricate guitar shredding at a fast tempo and then at a slower tempo accompanied by an atmospheric bass harmony. The Last Survivor sounds a lot like the Kampfar song, Van Sinn(from their Heimgang album), then inverts with an interlude that sounds similar to the Dimmu Borgir song Relinquishment Of Spirit And Flesh. Then this song reverts back to the Kampfar style. Vengeance sounds a lot like the style of Svartsyn, though it starts off sounding like the Dark Fortress song, Passage To Extinction. Awaiting The Final Breath starts off sounding like Taake and then concludes sounding like Kampfar. Journey Through Inner Landscape sounds more like Kampfar. Grieving Over The Dead sounds more like a Burzum song. Outro: Surviving is 2:19 of boring acoustical guitar play. So why the hell would someone want to buy a Brazilian imitation of Scandinavian metal? Well as you probably know, a few of the albums by Taake, Kampfar, and Svartsyn aren’t very good. This album by Lutemkrat is very good. So if you like those other bands that I’ve mentioned, check this one out. You won’t be disappointed.

Ruhige Akustikgitarrenklänge eröffnen das Debütalbum von LUTEMKRAT und stehen dabei im selben Kontrast zum folgenden “Silent Death” wie ein durchschnittlicher Wintertag in Mitteleuropa zu einem arktischen Eissturm. Hier schlägt einem nämlich gleich die volle Breitseite ins Gesicht und hinterlässt mit gut akzentuierten Riffs einen hervorragenden Eindruck. Das anfangs hoch angesetzte Tempo geht im Verlauf des Stückes in zurückhaltendes Midtempo über, womit dank der gut eingesetzten melodischen Untermalung ein interessanter Einstieg gelungen ist. Mit umgekehrten Vorzeichen entlädt sich in weiterer Folge der Titeltrack, wobei hier ebenfalls eine exzellente Gitarrenarbeit mit packenden Riffs und eingängiger Melodik zu Tage tritt, die sich gehüllt in eine eisig kalte Atmosphäre, in den langsameren Regionen des Stückes, perfekt präsentiert. Wer nun glaubt Wolf Lutemkrat hätte damit schon alle Trümpfe auf den Tisch gelegt und seinen Zenit überschritten irrt gewaltig, denn auch wenn das erste Drittel dieser Scheibe schon mit mehr Qualität aufwarten konnte, als es manche Bands in drei Alben vermögen, sollen die restlichen Songs dem ganzen noch die Krone aufsetzen. Stilistisch bewegt sich der Solokünstler zwar weiterhin konstant auf norwegisch geprägten Pfaden, doch vermag er ab nun seinen Kompositionen noch mehr Tiefe und Abwechslung zu verleihen, sodass “The Last Survivor” zu einem mehr als angenehmen Hörgenuss erwächst. Geschickt wird mit Tempo und Rhythmus variiert und es sei an dieser Stelle nur angemerkt, dass das Schlagzeug aus der Konserve vollends überzeugen kann. Den einzigen Kritikpunkt den ich an diesem Werk anbringen möchte ist der etwas holprige Übergang vom letzten Track ins Outro, der an der absolut angebrachten Kaufempfehlung aber nicht das Geringste ändert. Für das Protokoll auch noch der Hinweis, dass LUTEMKRAT nicht der Versuch der x-ten norwegischen Wiederauferstehung des Black Metal darstellt, sondern aus dem sonnigen Brasilien kommen – jetzt mal ehrlich: Wer von euch hätte sich das gedacht?

Spannendes, packendes und gut eingespieltes Album, das Fans der melodisch norwegischen Schule erfreuen wird.

The last survivor ist das Debütalbum Lutemkrats, einem brasilianischen Soloprojekt, welches sich dem Pagan Black Metal verschrieben hat. The last survivor macht insgesamt einen recht nordischen Eindruck auf mich. Es sind vor allem der raue Klang sowie der stark verzerrte, etwas grell und ein wenig heiser wirkende Gesang, welche eine nordisch kalte Atmosphäre versprühen. Und wie es bei den meisten Einmanngruppen ist, wurde auch hier das Schlagwerk programmiert. Lutemkrat ist dies allerdings relativ gut gelungen. Die programmierten Rhythmen sind zumeist natürlich ausgefallen, lediglich am Klang und an vereinzelten  Stellen entlarvt es sich selbst. Mich stört das hier nicht, da ich schon ungleich schlechteres gehört habe. Für Leute, die Drumcomputer jedoch aus tiefstem Herzen verachten, könnte dies bereits zu viel des Guten sein.

Spielerisch bietet Lutemkrat ein breitgefächertes Repertoire, das eingängig schnelle Parts, langsame Strecken und auch seichte Akustikgitarren beinhaltet. Im Grunde könnte The last survivor musikalisch auch als reines Black Metal Werk durchgehen. Die Akustikgitarre kommt nicht oft zum Einsatz, sodass der atmosphärische Anteil im Werk nicht überdurchschnittlich groß ist, was mich freut. Stattdessen setzt Lutemkrat vielmehr auf riffbetontes Gitarrenspiel. Dabei kristallisieren sich immer wieder schöne Melodiestränge mit Tiefgang heraus. Diese Melodik, gemeinsam mit dem etwas grellen Klang, wirkt nordisch, was im Falle vonLutemkrat jedoch nichts mit Abkupferei zu tun hat. The last survivor wirkt sehr eigenständig, ohne Neues oder Überraschendes zu beinhalten. Solide Kost ist es aber allemal.

Wer atmosphärisch kalten und gitarrenbetonten Black Metal mag, der sich rhythmisch nicht festlegt, sollte The last survivor ruhig probieren. Ich weiß vor allem Gesang und Melodik zu schätzen, weshalb es ganz sieben Punkte gibt.
